Brake Backs Sutton in Battle with TfL over Heritage Lights

4.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 7th Oct 2008

Tom Brake is calling on TfL to abandon their plans to replace Carshalton High Street's heritage street lamps with bog standard lamps.

His call comes after a letter from Sutton Council to TfL confirmed that, contrary to TfL's claim that the columns 'have a limited residual life', they still have years life in them.

Furthermore, the Council have confirmed that the level of lighting is appropriate for Carshalton High Street.

Tom Brake said, "TfL should now pull their proposals. They are not necessary, not wanted and totally out of keeping with the conservation area."
