Programme of Musical Mornings at Wallington Library.

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 18th Sep 2008

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington spent the morning at Wallington Library on Wednesday 11th September listening to a CD recital.

Tom Brake was joined by local VIPs, Sutton's Mayor Brendan Hudson and Councillor Graham Tope. They all enjoyed a compilation of music including Johan Strauss's 2nd Overture 'Die Fldermous' and Anna Russell's 'How to write a Gilbert & Sullivan Opera.'

The event was part of a programme of morning musical recitals run by the library that are aimed at elderly members of the community who often prefer not to attend evening cultural events because they do not want to be out after dark or because of limited transport links.

Talking after the recital Tom said 'I am pleased that this initiative seeks to make musical events easily accessible to elderly residents in our area. It is an opportunity for people to join together in a shared love of music and is a great example of the many cultural events that take place in Carshalton and Wallington'.

At the end of the recital, Tom Brake was asked to present a future programme of music. He has enthusiastically agreed.
