Free Water Must be on Tap for the Olympic Games - Brake1.45.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 20th Oct 2008 In a debate this Tuesday in Parliament about the Olympics Legacy, Tom Brake MP Liberal Democrat London and Olympics spokesman will be calling for free water to be on tap for all visitors to the Games. He said, "Everyone wants the 2012 Games to be the most sustainable on record. That must mean free non-bottled water for all visitors to the Games. Otherwise the discarded bottles will stretch to the Moon and back. And there would be a great health spin-off from increased water consumption and a reduction in fizzy drink consumption as well." Tom Brake has written to the Minister for the Olympics, the Mayor of London and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and the ODA asking them to work together to ensure equipment is installed at the Olympic venues to provide free non-bottled drinking water on all the Olympics sites. Tom Brake added, "There is a head of steam building up behind the campaign, first launched by the Evening Standard's campaign Water on Tap, to cut back on bottled water. Having free non-bottled water at all the Olympic venues would be a major step forward in the campaign."
