Burstow says Stop, Imagine and Change our streets

9.00.00am GMT Mon 10th Nov 2008

Paul Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam is backing a Road Safety Week campaign organised by Brake, the road safety charity who, along with bereaved families, are calling on the public to Stop. Imagine. Change.

In a week when the government released figures showing that over 9000 children were killed or injured on Britain's roads, families who have been devastated by horrendous crashes held protests around the country. The campaign aims to make drivers stop and imagine what happens in a community when someone dies or is severely injured in an accident and then change their behaviour so they never cause similar distress to their own family or someone else's.

Paul Burstow expressed his support this week, saying

'I support the Stop. Imagine. Change campaign it is a powerful reminder to anyone who gets behind a driving wheel.

'As a father of three, I know that all parents want to protect their children. The number of young lives being lost or damaged is unacceptable. We all need to get on board with this campaign to make our streets safer.'

NOTES TO EDITORS:

Brake is an independent national road safety charity. Brake exists to stop the 8 deaths and 79 serious injuries that happen on UK roads every day and to care for families bereaved and seriously injured in road crashes. Brake produces educational road safety literature, runs community training programmes and runs events including Road Safety Week (10-16 November 2008).
