Thumbs Down to Proposed New Admissions Criteria

6.13.59pm GMT Tue 20th Jan 2009

Commenting on Wallington Girls and Nonsuch Schools' proposals to cut the number of places for local children, Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington said, "These schools are right to consult on their plans. It will give local parents the chance to make their views heard, loud and clear. Sutton residents want their children to be able to get into Sutton's schools. These proposals will make this much harder".

Cllr Jayne McCoy, a Councillor in Wallington South ward in which Wallington Girls is located said, "I know that many local parents already have difficulties getting their children into Wallington & Carshalton schools because of the competition from applicants outside of the borough. This new admissions policy, if it gets approved, will only make that situation worse."

Tom and Jayne encourage all parents in Sutton to log onto the schools' website to check out for themselves the new admissions proposals.

Tom has been campaigning since 1990 under the previous Conservative Government and more recently the Labour Government to give priority to Sutton's pupils in Sutton's schools.
