Sport Fails to Take Off in Olympic Boroughs

11.10.55am GMT Fri 18th Dec 2009

New figures released by Sport England have shown that the number of adults playing sport at least three times a week has reached 6.93 million, but the statistics show that in 4 of the 5 Olympic boroughs, there was no change in the number of adults taking part in sport on a regular basis.

Liberal Democrat Olympic Spokesman Tom Brake MP said of the figures,

'The Government are still failing to make any real headway on increasing sports participation, even in the very London boroughs where the Olympics are going to be taking place. More needs to be done to ensure that the Government doesn't miss their target of getting one million more people into sport.'
