More join the team that keeps Sutton clean3.53.34pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 17th Jun 2010
Volunteers joined police and council workers for two clean up days in Sutton. The Capital Clean-Up campaign enlisted help from staff at McDonald's, the Big Yellow Storage Company and Tesco's to pick up litter in different areas around the borough. The 'team' tidied the area around Kimpton Park Industrial Estate and Plybrook Stream on 26 May and then tackled Sutton High Street on 28 May. More than 30 sacks of rubbish were collected over the two events, and council staff managed to pull a shopping trolley from the Plybrook Stream. Cllr Colin Hall, Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: "The Council is committed to keeping Sutton clean and tidy but we can achieve so much more by working together - whether it is with companies in the borough or residents taking pride in their local area. "This team did a great job collecting so many sacks of rubbish. We really want to encourage everyone to become part of the team that keeps Sutton clean." The London-wide campaign has been running for three years and aims to make capital a cleaner, safer, greener place for the Olympics and beyond.
